Upgrading builder-grade concrete in Providence

New construction in Providence comes with the minimum: a plain slab off the back door, usually four by four, and a driveway sized exactly to the garage. That is not a criticism of the builder, it is what the specification allows. It is also why most of our work here is upgrade rather than repair.

One thing worth knowing on a new build: the ground around a house that went up in the last few years is still settling, particularly where it was backfilled against the foundation. We take that into account when compacting.

What we are asked for most here: Patio extensions, stamped upgrades, pool decks.

What concrete costs in Providence

These are the ranges we quote across Providence and the rest of the Las Vegas Valley. Every number is per square foot installed, and every quote we write states the slab thickness, the base depth and the cement type, so you can hold it next to another contractor's.

Patio
$8-$15 per square foot, $13-$22 stamped
Driveway
$7-$13 per square foot, $13-$22 stamped
Pool deck
$9-$16 per square foot, cool deck coating $10-$18
Walkway
$7-$13 per square foot
Slab
$6-$13 per square foot
Where it moves
adds $2-$6 per square foot where caliche has to be ripped

The one line that moves a Las Vegas price more than any other is caliche. We put a test hole down before we quote, so the number you get is the number you pay rather than a change order on day two.

Permits in Clark County

Anything in the public right of way — the sidewalk across your frontage and the driveway apron where it meets the street — needs a permit from Clark County and an inspection afterwards. Work behind the property line generally does not. We are licensed in Nevada and carry certificates of insurance. We check which applies before quoting.

Questions we get asked

The ground is still settling. Should we wait?

Not necessarily, but it changes how we prepare. Backfill against a foundation keeps consolidating for a year or two, so we compact it properly rather than pouring straight on top and hoping. The alternative is a patio that follows the fill down.

Can you extend the builder's slab rather than replace it?

Usually yes. The join is visible because the two pours are different ages, so we plan it at a deliberate line. It costs far less than tearing out something only a few years old.

Does the HOA have a say?

In several of the newer communities here, yes — covenants can cover finish and colour. Worth checking before you commit to a pattern.
